Chapter 1 - Zap

HERE'S WHAT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! THE OPENING TO MY NEW STORY, "ZAP"! Please review, and feel free to be a total......about it.
EDIT: I think I made it better :D

Why did this have to happen to us? I thought solemnly as my brother and I stand silently in the brisk night air, gazing at our once beautiful Sultan’s Palace, burn to the ground in a sea of fire. Its menacing flames licked at the night air above, as if mocking us.
We don’t deserve this, I think to myself. The flames have by now engulfed the entire house in their tendrils of heat. Our possessions are gone. Us ourselves barely had enough time to escape the house before the fire erupted from the house. I only had enough time to grab my sword, thankfully propped against my dresser, next to my bed; as did my brother. The only things we have left is the armor upon our backs, and our wands of choice.
We’re gifted, not extraordinary. Part of the house collapsed in on itself, destroying what was left of a second floor.
This isn’t fair. What was left of the house collapses, leaving only an enormous heap of burning wood and rubble. My brother and I both glance at each other, and I can tell us both have the same thought:
We can’t stay here.

It was while we were contemplating this that a dark figure approached us from the remains of our home. His height neared seven feet and five inches, judging from my estimates. His attire consisted of night-black plates of armor, covering him from neck to toe. His head, and face (save his mouth) for that matter, strangely enough was hidden within an onyx hood, preventing us from glancing at his eyes.
“Well boys, it appears that I’ve found you after all this time. I’ve gotta hand it to you, hiding in a lowly Wizard’s house made it extremely difficult to track you down. The Guardians would be proud of you for eluding me this long. Shame they could not accomplish a similar feat,” the man chuckled quietly to himself. His voice sounded similar to that of a phantom. Ominous and petrifying. My brother and I grunted in frustration. Surely if he had managed to find our location, he would have it surrounded on all sides by his underlings. It dawned on us there was no easy escape. The man chortled silently, and unsheathed his sword. It’s blade glistened in the embers of our fallen home. He drove the tip into the desert sand, and rested his arms on the exposed hilt With his gloved right hand, the man snapped his middle finger and thumb, and in a cloud of purple, ghastly smoke, emerged two creatures, of roughly six feet in height, with their tails still coiled, mind you. Strange, they were. For they had the head and tail of a serpent….most likely a cobra, and the torso and arms of a man, both of which clad in silver armor, and both wielding an ax which appeared too large for them, yet they carried it as if it were a stick from a small tree.
“Nathairix, would you be so kind as to please escort these two to their imminent demise?” the man politely inquired. The serpents bowed before their master and hissed, “Cccertainly, Lord Noctissss.” We simply stood there and watched the serpent-men slither towards us. Each took our arms and yanked them behind our backs, restraining us from fighting back or fleeing.
“On the plus side however, you’ll soon be reunited with your love, Wolf. Nicole, I believe her name was?”

The world stopped for a few seconds.
He…has…Nikki… I thought furiously. My mind was now racing. I picked my head up and glared daggers at Noctis.
“Oops! Seems I’ve struck a nerve with that one,” he said, toying with me.
“Don’t you DARE lay a hand on her! So help me God if you do…” I trailed off. I couldn’t think straight anymore! Noctis swung his sword through the air, and aimed the tip at my neck.
“You’ll do what?” he mocked. I felt my tension rising. In the corner of my eye, I could see Gavin gazing at me in fear. He knows what's soon going to happen. I could feel the fury and rage building inside of me, just waiting for the moment when it could erupt out of me in a wave of blind anger.
"Calm yourself, Wolf. You're embarrassing yourself. She might not even be 'alive' by the time you arrive, so please restrain yourself," Noctis explained as if this were an everyday conversation. I snapped. And to make a long story shot, within the next 120 seconds, Noctis lost two of his Nathairix Warriors.
